Strength Training

It’s important not to neglect strength training during a workout plan. Lifting weights obviously increases muscle, which therefore changes your body composition and increases your amount of fat-free mass. Muscle burns more calories each day than fat does, so if you add muscle your metabolism will increase. Strengthening your muscles will also decrease the risk for injury. Working with weights will increase bone density, which is especially important for women. And let’s not forget, strength training will improve your appearance.

There are several ways to do strength training: free weights, machines, resistance bands. Each method has their own good and bad points, but at the moment I’m enjoying working out with resistance bands. The bands come in different colors indicating different levels of difficulty, and you can work every muscle with them. They’re extremely easy to use (and travel with!) plus you can feel your muscles working extra hard as they try to stabilize the wobbly band.
